How do you add to this Brutalist fortress of rhythmic board-formed concrete, stone and glass? Judiciously of course. Hsu McCullough has teamed with ID Group to carefully add a new, superior swimming pool - a hundred feet in length - as well as an outdoor terrace that cohesively links the extant interior kitchen-living-dining areas across the full exterior width. A semilunar, crescent-shape swimming pool with infinity edge re-envisions the patio as a property wide mirror as it teeters on the edge of the mesa. A grill station and shaded al fresco dining completes the outdoor entertaining footprint with options for an operable metal louvered lid or a heavy-duty canvas sail. To fully capture the sweeping 180-degree southern views of the Los Angeles skyline and the Pacific Ocean, we meticulously removed select oversized concrete columns expanding the vista from within. Set into the hillside of Beverly Hills’ Trousdale Estates by ID Group in 2016, this 18,000 sq. ft. single family residence was conceived as a rigorous exploration of Brutalist architecture, raw precision and industrial elegance.
