With the soothing sounds of the Akulikuli stream in the near distance, this two story family home is anchored on the windward coast within a three acre tropical jungle property of intrinsic landscape beauty. The location determines the building’s color palette - a standing-seam metal roof of jade permits the house to blend with the vegetation while the earthen brown timber-clad siding rises from the volcanic soil in a matching hue. Bucolic charm with scenic natural features surround an elevated posture formed by the convergence of pilotis and the lanai clasping the North, East and West facades around a central core. Elegant symmetry is formed with a distinct gable penetrating the entire depth of the home at the upper floor marking the shared living spaces: This vaulted timber-clad room with exposed wood posts and beams is capped with operable walls of glass at each end as well as hanging fans funneling trade wind air up and to the outside - from the ocean through to the distant mountains with waterfalls. Always mālama aina!
