A captivating orchestration of forms, textures and brawny materiality: Standard components, raw materials and lavish planting were assembled to create a unified whole on top of a mountain ridge framing the Fossil Ridge Park hillside of live oaks as well as the San Fernando Valley floor beyond. This home with a brise-soleil facade is two stories with a walk-out basement as it opens to a private rear yard patio where the great room is part of the site. Energy efficiency was addressed with two large garden roofs over interior spaces offering a thermal barrier that is visually pleasing, attracting hummingbirds and bees throughout the year.
